I am very pleased to be able to invite you to the 8th Congress of the Croatian Society of Medical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine with International Participation, on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Congress and in the name of all the members of the Society and our president Prof. Ana-Maria Šimundić, PhD. The Congress will take place from 22 to 26 September 2015 in Rijeka. The venue will be the HKD Conference Centre (Hrvatski kulturni dom) and the adjacent Neboder Hotel, which represent a fine example of the 1930's architecture and, as such, are the protected cultural heritage of the city centre.

By attending the Congress, which will be structured in nine symposiums, three plenary meetings, industrial workshops, a poster presentation and an exhibition, you will be able to get an overview of various relevant developments in the area of laboratory medicine during the last three years. The abstracts of the presentations and posters will be published in the Society's journal "Biochemia Medica". Besides this rich official part of the Congress, we have prepared attractive and interesting program of social events, which will start at the welcome ceremony on Tuesday, September 22, and will include a gala dinner in the evening of Thursday, September 24. You may find important information and updated versions of both official and social program on our website and follow all our activities and announcements before and during the Congress on Facebook and Twitter, where we are looking forward to receiving feedback from you in form of comments and suggestions.

In hope that the 8th Congress, both during its official parts and in the after-hours, will be another great opportunity to meet and socialize with colleagues and friends from Croatia and other neighbouring countries, I cordially welcome you and wish you a pleasant stay in our city! We wish that Rijeka, as another Mediterranean and Adriatic town with a rich past and interesting present, will represent a successful tradition, continuing the wonderful experiences from Dubrovnik, which followed standards of excellence set in other Croatian towns as the venues of our previous Congresses. I am looking forward to seeing you in Rijeka, a city candidate for the European cultural capital for the year 2020!

Koraljka Mittel,
President of Organizing Committee

Chair ZODear colleagues, dear friends,

It is my great honor and pleasure to invite and to welcome you to the 8th Congress of the Croatian Society of Medical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine with international participation. On behalf of the Scientific Committee I look forward to meet you in the city of Rijeka in September 2015.

Rijeka is my home town, the city where I work, which makes my work in the Scientific Committee more responsible and task to compose attractive and interesting program even more challenging. As laboratory medicine is often pushed out of central focus in medicine, city of Rijeka is sometime unfairly considered as boring industrial place. Scientific Committee was strongly motivated to prove that both of these facts were due to the misconception. I believe that during the congress we will realize that our principles and methods of work are coherent with global trends and on the best way to achieve the highest demands of good laboratory practice as well as that Rijeka is one great venue.

Guided by these key principles, our intention was to create symposia and plenary lectures focused on everyday problems and issues in modern laboratory practice. Numerous distinguished national and international lecturers were invited to deliver that task. We therefore strongly believe that all participants will recognize the importance of selected topics and find guidance for improving their work.

I warmly invite all colleagues to contribute to the scientific program by submitting their own work in a form of poster presentations. Oral presentations of two elected posters will be assigned to each symposium and it will surely significantly raise the scientific value of program. Poster walk, planed for each of congress days will be the wonderful opportunity to discuss important routine and scientific laboratory topics that will not be covered by congress symposia.

On behalf of all members of the Scientific Committee and on my own behalf, I warmly welcome all participants hoping that our efforts will be successful and congress content will be source of new inspiration and ideas in further work.

Looking forward to meet you in Rijeka,

Prof. Lidija Bilić-Zulle, PhD
President of Scientific Committee
